The VDE mark is a voluntary certification offered by the German Association for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies (Verband der Elektrotechnik, Elektronik und Informationstechnik - VDE). The VDE mark is mainly found on electronic devices, but can also be found on medical apparatus.
Before the VDE mark can be used on their products, manufacturers must first subject their products and production facilities to an inspection procedure in which they must fulfil various criteria.
Upon approval, the VDE shall affix the VDE mark to the product confirming that it is safe and does not pose any electrical, mechanical, thermal, toxic, radiological or other hazard.
