Many companies, especially owner-managed companies, see themselves as part of society and actively participate in shaping it – like the bag maker Halfar from Bielefeld. The company was recently awarded the CSR OWL prize for its exemplary commitment. "The prize goes to every single employee of our company. I'm proud that we made it through our joint effort," explains Armin Halfar, founder and managing director of the company.
CSR generally involves entrepreneurial social responsibility, which is voluntary and goes beyond legal requirements. In concrete terms, the CSR OWL (Ostwestfalen-Lippe) prize distinguishes entrepreneurial commitment in four areas: in the market, for the workplace or employees, for the environment and for the community. Wherever Halfar proves with projects and initiatives that it takes responsibility and looks at the bigger picture. In 2017, for example, the Bielefeld-based company further expanded its range of organic cotton bags, produced in accordance with the GOTS standard, and is continuing to develop its conventional product range in an ecological sense. In general, the balance between ecology and economy is of particular importance to the specialist for promotional bags. Since 2017, it has been operating its headquarters in a completely CO2-neutral way. Other ambitious measures for environmental and climate protection are on the agenda, such as CO2-neutral import and shipping. "Think global, act local": Following this motto, Halfar is also committed to a society worth living in – starting immediately in-house. The company promotes equality, integration and inclusion. It works hand in hand with the integration company prosigno (printing company) under one roof. And through the "Initial Qualification plus Language" initiative, refugees are given vocational training. Halfar convinced the jury with these and numerous other projects. On 3 May, company representatives were invited to receive the CSR OWL prize at an award ceremony. Learn more about Halfar's broad involvement in the company's blog: www.halfar.com
