Schwan-STABILO Group on course for a successful future

The Schwan-STABILO Group continues to drive the transfer towards the future. "We must constantly ask ourselves what we have to offer to the world of tomorrow," said managing partner Sebastian Schwanhäußer when announcing the balance sheet figures for the past financial year 2016/2017. The family-owned company in the fifth generation generated total sales of 713.5 million euros in its three divisions Cosmetics, Writing Instruments and Outdoor. Cosmetics generated 364.7 million euros (previous year 364.3 million euros), STABILO generated 184.4 million euros (previous year 185.2 million euros) and the Outdoor division contributed 164.2 million euros (previous year: 157 1 million euros). "Fortunately, we maintained the very high sales level of the previous year in all business segments," explains Group Managing Director Dr. Ing. Jörg Karas, "and each division maintained its leading position despite tough conditions." One explanation for the developments in the various divisions is the ups and downs of trends, products and individual markets. In the cosmetics business, normalisation returned to the major brands following the last boom year. In the case of writing instruments, the new creative techniques of hand-lettering and bullet journaling won more and more fans, but the hype as in the previous year with the colouring trend for adults was not reached. The booming passion for hiking in Germany had a positive effect on the outdoor division.

"We can count on the diversity of our corporate portfolio," concludes Sebastian Schwanhäußer, adding as a warning, however: "Digital transformation in all its forms, an even greater individualisation of society as well as Asia as a growth market are still gaining momentum. That is why only timely developed future-oriented fields can secure our leading edge." At the end of the event, Jörg Karas concluded: "The ability to recognise and exploit opportunities is part of our DNA. We specifically work on how we can expand our business models, how to prepare our employees for digital transformation in a sustainable manner, and how to sensibly and successfully use digital tools in all areas of the company."
