Rastal: New technology makes glass come alive
Reality enhancement without intoxication – this is now possible when drinking thanks to AR technology. Here is the AR Kölsch glass produced by Rastal.
Augmented reality is the new technology with which Rastal, the renowned manufacturer of exclusive brand glassware, is now looking deeper than usual into a glass. The glass specialist is the first company to develop a special AR glass that projects digital content such as videos, images or animated objects into the real environment. "This is how interactive scenarios are created in real-time on the display of a smartphone, which virtually merges with a real drinking glass," says Carsten Kehrein, chief designer at Rastal. As the first brewery, Gaffel Kölsch now supplies the "Jeck im Sunnesching" Kölschstange beer glass with AR. You simply have to load a special app (EasyVR) onto your smartphone. The scanned signet on the glass then leads directly to the "Jeck im Sunnesching" film which you can watch in real time. The technology became known through the Pokemon Go game. The AR glass is being tested in the Gaffel am Dom brewery house, one of the largest restaurants in Cologne. A total of 1,000 Kölschstangen beer glasses with AR are in use. In order to reach as many users as possible, Gaffel has produced an explanatory video. www.rastal.com
