Around 330 participants from six countries met to discuss sustainability and organic textiles.

"Connecting for Success" was the topic of the GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) seminar in Dhaka on 8 September 2019. It was already the second regional GOTS event in Bangladesh following the event in November 2016. Around 330 participants from six countries met to discuss sustainability and organic textiles. They included representatives from various sectors of the textile industry, such as spinning, knitting, wet processing, clothing manufacturing and department stores, international brands, certification bodies, test laboratories, media and scientists. Regional GOTS representatives organise events around the world to bring stakeholders together and gather feedback on the specific needs of market participants.

The delegates stressed the importance of traceability and transparency along the supply chain; communication of employee rights; an open and supportive attitude towards collective bargaining; increased mutual consideration of certifications; building capacity among workers and the need for sound internal systems for certification bodies. In addition, it was noted that GOTS contributed towards improving conditions in production units. For example, several factories have installed a wastewater treatment plant (ETP) to obtain GOTS certification. "The large participation today is proof that GOTS is successfully serving as a platform for its stakeholders to work together on sustainable solutions," said Sumit Gupta, GOTS representative in India and Bangladesh. www.global-standard.org
